Carine's Bridal Atelier
Bridal Fashion Trends
By Carine Halabi, May 2007Bridal couture is evolving at lighting speed. The dress that left the
crowd breathless at your friend's wedding two years ago may not have
the same effect today. Current bridal couture is softer, more
feminine and more ethereal rather than the structured feel of the
past. Circular skirts, modified a-line and fit-to-flair gowns are in
vogue, as are stylishly appointed bows, roses, gathered bodices,
ruffles and accordion pleating. Accessories are all the rage among
DC's sophisticated brides and include rafia boleros and meticulously
embroidered shrugs and stoles, all gracefully set off in a vintage
style.
Hang heavier rich fabrics, such as Alencon lace, and tiaras in your
mother's closet. Instead, let's welcome Guipure lace, cotton silk
Mikado, and dotted organza - these emulate the vintage feel of old
Hollywood. Also, watch for hand draped tulle, newly textured
chiffons, flounce skirts and more translucent materials that glide
when you walk. Today's veils are longer and simpler, with a pencil
edge and some tiny pearls or crystals. Headpieces are delicately
placed beside any updo to be romantically understated.
The DC bride generally walks down a conservative aisle which, without
a change of outfit, can lead to an overly modest look during the
wedding after-party. Quick fix to sharpen your appearance for the
wedding finale? Lose the studded earrings and replace them with
sparkling chandeliers. Slap on some higher, sexier stilettos and
capture the dance floor like you captured the aisle.
The best advice you will ever get for finding the perfect dress is
simple. The golden rule of bridal fashion is as old as time. Dress to
flatter your body type - no matter how stylish a dress is, or how
fabulous it looks in a magazine, if the dress is wearing you it is
better to keep looking!
